In the first half of the year, affected by the macro-economic situation, gree electric appliances and Qingdao haier both saw sales decline, but the net profit increased against the trend. Midea group saw a double increase in sales and net profit. Intellectualization and internationalization are the common tasks of the company against the economic downturn cycle.

Performance has been varied

In the first half of this year, midea group realized 82.5 billion yuan of operating revenue, up 6.7% year on year. Net profit was 8.324 billion yuan, up 25.93 percent year on year. Gree's operating revenue for the first half of this year was 50.11 billion yuan, down 13.4 percent year on year. Net profit was 5.721 billion yuan, up 0.05% year on year. Qingdao haier's operating revenue in the first half of this year was 49.92 billion yuan, down 10.81 percent year on year. Net profit was 2.629 billion yuan, up 2% year on year.

Gree and haier have maintained the top domestic market share in domestic air conditioners, refrigerators and washing machines respectively. Midea is far ahead in the field of small appliances, and in the field of home air conditioning followed gree, in the field of refrigerators and washing machines closely followed haier.

In an interview with reporters in early August, dong mingzhu, chairman and President of gree electric appliances, admitted that sales would drop year on year as gree lowered the price of air conditioners and promoted the popularization of variable frequency air conditioners since the end of September last year. In the first half of the year, midea continued to promote high-end products, such as the "ding kettle" IH smart rice cooker sold to the Japanese market, and the "I youth" smart air conditioner interacting with mi smart bracelet, which strongly promoted the counter trend expansion of the turnover. Haier, too, saw revenues for its upmarket brand, cassady, rise by more than 40 per cent in the first half from a year earlier.

However, the strength of gree is not to be underestimated. Although its operating income declined in the first half of the year for the first time in recent years, the net cash flow generated by its operating activities reached 29.756 billion yuan, up 54.13 percent year on year, indicating its strong risk tolerance. The net cash flow from midea's first-half operations fell 33 per cent from a year earlier to rmb8.816bn.

Intelligent products + intelligent manufacturing

In the face of the sluggish market environment at home and abroad, intelligence has opened up new growth space for sanbaymax electric co., LTD. However, the three smart paths are different from each other.

The intelligence of midea group is relatively stable. In 2015, midea launched more than 80 smart products. Completed the docking of m-smart system with alibaba, jd.com and suning three e-commerce platforms and xiaomi system, and released the version 2.0 of "meiju" app for SMART home management to improve user experience.

Always "conservative" gree electric appliances, also fast horse whip. As the standard equipment for home installation and multi-online, gree cloud control has been widely popularized, and users can control air conditioning remotely. Although the intelligent path is different, but these three big white electric companies are fond of "intelligent manufacturing". At present, haier has completed the intelligent transformation of more than 800 processes in 28 factories of 5 major industrial lines. It has built 4 interconnection factories of shenyang refrigerator, zhengzhou air conditioner, foshan drum washer and Qingdao water heater, paving the way for the customized production of C2B. This year, midea and anchuan electric set up two joint ventures to produce industrial robots and service robots respectively. On the other hand, it extends to artificial intelligence to build the ecological ability of integration of smart home. The research and manufacturing of gree automation equipment mainly focuses on industrial robots and high-end CNC machine tools, and has covered more than 10 fields such as large-scale automation wire.

New international space

The domestic economy has entered a new normal, and the overseas market has become the "blue sea" of the joint efforts of sanbaymax.

This year, Qingdao haier spent 4.87 billion yuan to acquire overseas business assets of its parent company, haier group, which has been operating for more than a decade. After the completion of this transaction, the overseas r&d, manufacturing and sales system of haier group in Asia, Europe, America, Africa and other major countries and regions of the world will be incorporated into the listed company, which will help Qingdao haier integrate global r&d, manufacturing and marketing resources and create a global brand.

Midea group set up its international headquarters in the first half of this year to plan its overseas self-owned brand business as a whole, promote the transformation of its export business model from "OEM oriented" to "OBM oriented", change its organizational form from supporting "China export" to supporting "local operation", and gradually build a second track to promote the development of overseas self-owned brand business.

Earlier, dong mingzhu told the financial times that this year, in addition to domestic air conditioners, gree central air conditioners, TOSOT small appliances and jinghong refrigerators will promote the export of diversified products.
